The eiscue is the recent addition to Team Selena, but she would not mind having it around for the first time if it would bring home the bacon for setting high records in her streaks.

Luckily, it is very cooperative to its new owner. At the sound of the gun, the penguin starts BELLY DRUMMING with its flippers, harmoniously following the sound of the people’s cheering.

Gavin's Metagross has quickly become his secret weapon in the Pokeathalon. PSYCH UP allows him to disregard more complex strategy in favour of simply leeching off his teammates: in this case, Selena's Eiscue.[break][break]

Eiscue remind Gavin of home; it's bizarre, among many other Galarian Pokemon.[break][break]

Having learned by this point what's expected of it, Gavin's Metagross acts of its own volition in surging forward to slam into the nearest set of targets.[break][break]

kyle stretches as he readies for another course, his smeargle following after his trainer's lead. there's only one start for these kinds of runs with his smeargle, and the smeargle already knows what to do.

as rehearsed with multiples of the same runs before, it psychs up after the eiscue, sharing its boost in strength. it's trying to roar afterwards, but the sound it makes doesn't quite fit its intentions.

Everything is smooth sailing except for the fact that the eiscue trips on one his first steps through the course. Selena cheers the penguin up as she watched her teammates sprint from their places, giving them an awkward smile to compensate for her and her pokémon’s lack of coordination.

But eiscue stands up with a defiant spirit and begins dashing through the race, ICICLE SPEARS CRASHING through the plywoods.

Where Selena and Eiscue have started off weak, Gavin's Metagross starts out strong: targets splinter, crack, shatter under the psychic assault from the dual-type.[break][break]

Changing it up, Metagross uses METEOR MASH next. Gavin ducks a rocky projectile and decides he'd much preferred when his Pokemon was hurling invisible blasts of energy.[break][break]

there were honestly much better suited pokemon for the task, but kyle's insistence on reusing the same strategy over and over for the sake of efficiency in between runs forces the smeargle to do things he wasn't meant to do in the first place.

it breaks multiple boards with beat up easily, and kyle is immediately reminded that maybe he's underestimating his own pokemon too much. when his smeargle trips over nothing afterwards, kyle starts to think otherwise.

unfortunately, the icicle swerved in its projection and did not break into the plywoods, forcing the penguin to crash through the piles and break his head. “shit!” mumbles selena, who never swears. “are you alright?” but the eiscue goes on and tries another icicle crash into the piles, effectively destroying them at point blank as they both hurry into their other teammates.[break][break]

Hurling verbal abuse at his Pokemon is having no effect, good or bad, and so Gavin lapses into a surly silence as they continue to press on through the course. He's competitive and hates to lose, so naturally the poor performance drags his mood into the dirt along with the shattered bits of target that they leave in their wake. He might've punched one just to exact his anger if he wasn't worried about getting splinters in his already bruised knuckles. This was hell.

kyle just wants this to end.

while his smeargle breaks up multiple of the obstacles at the same time, kyle tries to lessen the load for his pokemon by picking out what seemed to be the weakest and kicking it down.

it does work, but by the time he was done, his smeargle has finished multiple. needless to say, it was inefficient.
